Welcome to my blog

I have already successfully completed a few projects with microcontrollers. Since work and family commitments sometimes mean I can't progress for weeks or even months at a time, I usually have to start again afterwards. At some point, I got tired of this, so I decided to write down or at least link to the knowledge I’ve gained from the internet. …

Retro Sound – Terratec Promedia 512i digital

A nearly modern PCI sound card with DOS drivers. The card features a Forte Media 801 sound chip. This supports 5.0 sound, at least under Windows. The card is easy to install and was robust in my test cases. Installation under DOS was also problem-free; Creative could certainly learn a thing or two from this. Views Facts…

Retro Sound – Diamond Technology DT0398

Released around 1998 with a PCI interface, this card appears rather ordinary. It features a Forte Media FM801 sound chip. There's even a DOS driver for it, let's see if it works with this card. Retro Project – FDC USB Floppy Disk Controller

Who needs a floppy disk drive anymore? For retro enthusiasts, this question is quickly answered. And this simple project makes it possible to connect a floppy disk drive to a modern computer via USB. Entire floppy disks can be created using image files. I've built this project discreetly before with limited success. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work to check…

Retro Project – USB to RS232 Mouse Adapter

Using high-resolution USB mice on old machines means a loss of resources, even on a Pentium II. The enthusiasts among you will say, „We can just keep using old serial, mechanical mice!" Unfortunately, this is where the problem lies. These types of mice are no longer manufactured, and the ones that still exist are sold at inflated prices. Who wants to pay £40 for a used ball-driven mouse when optical mice are superior and more robust?

Retro Project – Monotech ISA DoubleROM

Why take a card with just one ROM when you can get one that has two? That's exactly what the developers at Monotech probably thought, and they've laid out a Double ROM card, and even better, they've made the hardware open source. So, if you don't want to tinker yourself, you can get here…
